Mobile LPG Catering Appliance Testing & CP44 Gas Safety Certificates

Mobile LPG catering is a highly specialised area that requires annual safety checks for all vehicles and equipment serving the public. At Direct PHS Ltd, we provide professional testing and certification to ensure your mobile catering business complies with gas safety regulations and operates safely.

Why annual testing is important
It is the responsibility of the vehicle or equipment owner to ensure that all LPG appliances are tested by a Gas Safe-registered engineer with the appropriate mobile catering qualifications. Failure to do so can invalidate commercial insurance and may result in fines or denial of event access.

Mobile catering engineers must hold qualifications for the specific appliances they are testing. For example:

  • LPG griddle on a mobile vehicle: "Mobile Catering Range Cookers LPG" qualification
  • Commercial kitchen range cooker running on natural gas: "Commercial Catering Range Cookers NG" qualification

For further guidance, you can refer to NCASS (National Catering Exhibition & Street Food Association) or Gas Safe Register.

What is a CP44 Mobile Catering Gas Safety Certificate?

A qualified gas engineer issues a CP44 certificate to confirm that your mobile or outdoor catering business uses gas equipment safely and in compliance with regulations.

Do I need a CP44 certificate?

Yes - if your catering business uses LPG (bottled gas) appliances in a mobile vehicle, trailer, gazebo, or outdoor location, you are legally required to hold a valid CP44 certificate every 12 months. Some high-risk setups may require certificates valid for 6 months due to frequent appliance use and reconnection. You should not operate commercially without proof of inspection.

Cost of a mobile catering gas safety certificate?

A standard CP44 certificate costs £255.00 + VAT per vehicle or setup (including trailers, gazebos, or standalone units).

Choosing the correct certificate?

The correct certificate is the CP44 Commercial Mobile Catering Certificate (LPG). Leisure gas certificates are not valid for commercial catering and will not be accepted by local authorities or event organisers.
